Overview

Every booking on ardena includes insurance coverage so both renters and hosts are protected. This page summarises what's covered, the excess (deductible) that applies, and what to do if something goes wrong.

What's covered

Rentals booked through ardena include:

  • Third-party liability — Coverage for damage or injury to third parties
  • Collision damage — Damage to the rental vehicle, subject to excess
  • Theft protection — Theft of the vehicle, subject to excess

Coverage applies for the duration of the booking when the vehicle is used in line with our terms.

Excess (deductible)

The standard excess is KSh 50,000. This is the amount the renter is responsible for in the event of damage to the vehicle or theft before insurance pays the rest.

Excess may be higher for certain vehicles or if the renter opts for a lower excess product (where available). The applicable excess is shown in the app at the time of booking.

For renters

As a renter you are covered for third-party liability, collision, and theft as described above. You must:

  • Use the vehicle only as permitted (no commercial use, racing, or illegal activity unless allowed)
  • Report any accident, damage, or theft to the police and to ardena within 24 hours
  • Provide a police abstract (P3 form) for accident claims

If you cause damage through negligence or use the vehicle in a way that breaks the terms, you may be liable for the full cost and the excess. See our Legal page for full terms.

For hosts

As a host, your vehicle is covered during confirmed rentals. You must:

  • Keep the vehicle in roadworthy condition and with valid insurance as required by ardena
  • Report any incidents or damage through the app as soon as possible
  • Cooperate with any claim or investigation

Coverage applies when the rental is active and the vehicle is in the renter's care as per the booking.

Making a claim

If you're involved in an accident or the vehicle is stolen:

  • Contact the police first and get a report or abstract where applicable
  • Report to ardena within 24 hours via the app or ardenacompanies@gmail.com
  • Provide any requested details (photos, police abstract, etc.)

Failure to report in time may affect your coverage. Our team will guide you through the next steps.

What's not covered

Coverage does not apply when:

  • The vehicle is used outside the terms (e.g. commercial use, racing, illegal activity)
  • Damage or loss is not reported within the required time
  • The driver is not the verified renter or an approved additional driver
  • Personal belongings left in the vehicle are lost or damaged (these are not covered by vehicle insurance)
